SQUADRON LEADER AIRCRAFT

Squadron Leader Aircraft Srls was founded from the union of the skills and experiences in the field of mechanical engineering and industrial production of the two founding partners and directors: Eng. Carmelo Marrale and Dr. Paolo G. Marletta.

The company has its own design office, located in the industrial area of Gela, Italy.

DR. PAOLO G. MARLETTA
He is in charge of design and management of the team and has gained a forty years’ experience in light aircraft, obtaining appreciation also from sector magazines. After intense youth aircraft modelling activity, in 1979 he made his first ultralight airplane powered by an engine derived from a car and later obtained the license as a private pilot and ultralight aircraft flight instructor. The first phase of the activity began by the construction projects only, creating numerous aircraft both wooden and metal. In 2003, with his own projects, he specialized in reproducing historic warbirds, first of all the replica of Hawker Hurricane MkII two-seater and a brazilian turboprop replica for other company, of which he was also a test pilot.
ENG. CARMELO MARRALE
He has gained experience in the design of automatic machines and systems in the industrial sector and their production, both of serial and customized. Marrale has been entrusted with technical management tasks for large companies, such as Magneti Marelli and Eni, with positive results both in terms of turnover growth and company margins, demonstrating excellent business management skills. Marrale is a mechanical designer for on-board systems, expert in programming CNC machines.
ENG. RICCARDO BARGETTO
Degree in aeronautical engineering obtained in 1981 at the Polytechnic of Turin. He got hired by Aeritalia (now Leonardo) in February 1983. From 1983 to 1984 he was in charge of airframe stress analysis and sizing of structural components of both military and civil aircraft such as AM-X and ATR42. From 1984 until 2020 he was in charge of the initial evaluations of the projects, dealing with the conception of new corporate configurations of military aircraft. In this context, he took care of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, being part of the preliminary design team and carrying out the first aeromechanical sizing, the calculation of aerodynamic characteristics and flight performance. For the Typhoon, AM-X and TORNADO aircraft, he participated in the competitor benchmarking to support marketing activities. From 1990 to 2020 he was involved in the design of drones, taking care of the general sizing aspects, defining their structural configuration and calculating their aerodynamic characteristics and flight performance. From 2007 until today he has participated as a freelance in the design of various light aircraft, both in metal and carbon fibre, with different characteristics of use, ranging from basic recreational airplanes, to scale replicas, up to fast and long-range tourism aircrafts. In this capacity he looked after their preliminary sizing, the evaluation of the aerodynamic characteristics, performance and structural sizing. From 2009 until 2011 he was involved in the design of wind turbines, participating in the calculation of aeromechanical performance.
Squadron Leader Aircraft aims to maximize the productivity of its equipment and staff by providing contract manufacturing services for ultralight and experimental aircraft parts.
